When I first saw this sturdy plant on my visit to India, I was amazed at how simple and how mysterious it was (now I enjoy it daily thanks with my green juice drink from Organifi). It was not leafy, it’s leaves are tiny, and it’s fruit is a little bit weird. Instead of having a rounded fruit, I can see that it is a straight, slender fruit that dangles from the tree. And the local folks at India are harvesting the leaves, fruit, bark, and almost every part of this tree. When I’ve discovered that it’s scientific name, Moringa Oleifera, I’ve realized why it was such an important plant, it had tons of medicinal and nutritional properties.
Let’s take a look at some of the medicinal properties of this herbal plant. I’ve done my own research to find more information about this plant and today I’d like to share them with you. Let’s get started and if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out and connect with me via the information boxes.
For staters, the Morina plant is a nutrition powerhouse. There’s tons of vitamins and minerals that are present in all the parts of the plants. Just take a look at the nutritional value of these plants. Protein is about 2 grams, Vitamin B6, Vitamin C, Iron, Riboflavin, Vitamin A, Magnesium but there’s also the antinutrients. Antinutrients are compounds that decrease the absorption of certain minerals and nutrients.
Another reason to eat and consume more Moringa Oleifera plant products is because it is rich in anti-oxidants. Anti oxidants are compounds that helps fight our bodies free radicals. Free radicals cause oxidative stress in our body which leads to a lot of medical diseases and conditions like heart disease and type 2 diabetes.
If you want the highest levels of antioxidants from the Moringa plant, they could be found in the leaves as discovered in several researches.
Another important benefit of Moringa is that it has powerful anti-inflammatory effect on our body. Inflammation is our body’s initial and protective response against injury. But if our bodies are chronically suffering from inflammation, it’s not a great thing. Our bodies could then suffer from chronic diseases like heart disease. Aside from Moringa, Turmeric is another supplement that has powerful anti-inflammatory effects.
If you’re eating rice and other foods affected by Arsenic, then you could suffer from the long-term effects of Arsenic toxicity. Fortunately, there has been some promising studies that shows the benefits of Moringa against the harmful effects of Arsenic. But some of the evidences on the benefits of Moringa are not powerful enough. We need more research done on this plant and superfood before we could conclude on what to do. Thankfully, I’ll be sharing more information about this topic in the future. If you are wondering what are the other superfoods and how can you get them more conveniently, I’ve seen this article about a delicious green juice powdered supplement that could help do the job. It could provide you with Moringa supplement but also 10 other superfoods that are very hard to find. Visit this article to learn more.
